Our Team
Dualchas Building Design was founded on the Isle of Skye in 1996 by brothers Alasdair Stephen and Neil Stephen. In 2012 it was renamed Dualchas Architects.
Ruaraidh Flyn is a Director alongside Neil and Alasdair, while Sophie Rowland leads the Glasgow studio. Other senior architects are Laura Stephen and Ian Hall, with the Skye team being completed by Marcus O'Connell, Jack Finnan, Erin Durno-Seymour, David Schnabel and Angela Milne. In Glasgow, Sophie is joined by Hania Steplewska, Sinéad MacMahon, Alastair Cassell, Sam Courtney and Tom Matthews. The Finance Manager is Sharon Clayton with support from Jocelyn McGarrity.
Over the past few years the profile of the practice has risen – and we are the first Scottish practice to be invited to exhibit in the Arsenale, as part of La Biennale di Architettura 2023. Such exposure has allowed us to push forward our ethos: that good quality design should be a response to place. At Dualchas we believe it is the responsibility of architects to be advocates for the built environment and leaders within our communities, and we intend to continue spreading the word – to architecture students, the general public, and politicians.
