Ord Steading

Isle of Skye

A historic courtyard steading in the community of Ord had fallen in to disrepair. The brief was to turn it in to a 3 bedroom house, but a conventional renovation was problematic as the room dimensions would be small and the views out limited. Instead it was decided to remove the collapsed roof structures, leave the boundary walls intact, and build a new two storey building to the rear of the site. The inner courtyard is to become a garden designed by Chelsea Gold-medalists Harris Bugg. The building itself is of concrete and corten steel, referencing the materials found on site. Work has started with the project due for completion the summer of 2024.
